This combo jeep + trekking experience gets you most of the way up the volcano by jeep, before a short trek to the top for sunrise. It’s a brilliant alternative to the full sunrise hike and perfect for those who want the summit experience without the 2-hour climb. Less effort, same amazing sunrise!

Unlike the standard Mt Batur hike which starts in the early hours and requires a good level of fitness, this experience gives you a head start with a jeep ride up the volcanic slopes. After that, it’s just an easy 45 minute walk to the summit to catch the first rays of daylight over Lake Batur and the surrounding mountains. Great for families, travellers short on time, or anyone who wants a more relaxed way to reach the top.

This is ideal if you’re after a unique, small-group adventure that avoids the usual crowd-heavy trails. You’ll also be guided by a local who knows the mountain inside out, so you’ll get insightful stories with your sunrise view.

What to Expect

• 2:45 AM: Hotel pick-up 
• 4:00 AM: Arrival at Mount Batur jeep base – switch to a 4WD jeep
• 4:30 AM: Jeep ride up the rugged volcanic trail under the stars
• 5:00 AM: Start a short trek to the summit (around 45 minutes)
• 5:45 – 6:00 AM: Reach the summit just in time for sunrise – soak in the views over Lake Batur, Mount Abang and beyond
• 6:30 – 7:00 AM: Walk around the crater, explore the area, and take in more views (and photos!)
• 7:30 AM: Trek back down to your jeep
• 8:00 AM: Jeep ride back to base
• 8:30 AM: Optional stop at a local coffee plantation – taste Bali's famous kopi luwak, learn about the roasting process, and sample different locally grown brews
• 9:30 – 10:30 AM: Return transfer to your hotel
